Career Lecture: Introduction to Brand Manager

The University's Career Development Center holds a series of internship explanatory meetings and workshops in this month. Although my classmates and I are just sophomores, our professors encourage us to think about our future plans in advance through participating in those activities. I am interested in marketing, and I want to major in relevant fields in graduate school. As a result, I participated in a lecture of introduction to brand manager.

Introduction to The Lecturer

The lecturer, Bruce Liu, graduated with a master degree of business administration from CCU. He has eight years experience in brand management, product management, and digital marketing.
What Should You Do Before You Find A Job?

Generally speaking, people tend to apply for a job with high salary. However, you have to think about whether this job is suitable for you at first. Only if you carefully consider your interests and will, you would worry about how you can get this job and the wage.
Who Can Be A Brand Manager?
Roughly, there are two different ways to enter this field.
If you work in marketing department...

For a new graduate, getting an internship in marketing department is the best choice. If you have a master degree, you can consider to apply for management associate of brand manager. In addition, marketing assistant and marketing specialist may be promoted to brand manager.
If you do not work in marketing department...

If you are an excellent salesman and pursue the largest cost-effectiveness (成本效益), you have had the basic abilities for being a brand manager. In addition, if you are also familiar with industry dynamics (產業動態) and customer trends, congratulations, you may be an outstanding brand manager.
What Do Brand Managers Do? & Secrets of Commercials

A brand manager has to convey a variety of information about one product to different departments in a company. As a result, a brand manager needs to realize all details about one commodity at first. Then, to make the largest profits, brand managers try to strike a balance between demands and suggestions from each sector. Therefore, communication and negotiation abilities is essential for this occupation.

Commercial is one of the best ways to market a product, and most people may consider that a more creative commercial can attract more customers. However, from brand managers’ perspective, it is not totally correct. Though creativity in marketing is important, the most essential is making profits. If many people have watched your advertisement but do not purchase your product, this advertisement is meaningless. To avoid a failure, in the beginning, brand managers analyze the properest marketing strategy towards one brand. Then, make an attractive story from the strategy, and put it in a commercial. As a result, a commercial which includes marketing strategy and can bring more customers to one brand is successful.
Conclusion & Reflection
To sum up, the lecturer states that a successful brand manager needs to have four main abilities: solving problems, communication, observation, and being patient. He suggests that we can develop those four capacities when we study in college because they will make us more outstanding in workplace. Through this lecture, I have more ideas about what I can do before entering workplace. In addition, I gain a deeper understanding of the field I am interested in.
